Last weekend, Betty piled endorsement upon endorsement in Daytona Beach. At a visit to Bethune-Cookman College, she stressed the need to improve education, proposing higher Pell Grants and expanded tuition assistance programs. I am writing you today for two reasons. I want you to know how much your support has meant to me this year and because so many people have asked "What's next?"
I ran for the Senate because I felt passionately about the issues facing Florida: creating a strong economy and good jobs, lowering the cost of healthcare, protecting our seniors and ensuring excellence in education and a clean environment. These issues will always be worth fighting for.

I have been in public service since 1972 and I expect to that to continue. I have been a public school teacher, a County Commissioner, a State Senator, Education Commissioner and a university president. I don't know yet what my next step will be but I promise you it will involve fighting for the issues I care so deeply about.

And I also promise that when I decide . . .you will be among the very first to know. I wouldn't make a move without letting you know. I will never forget the kindness and generosity you showed me during my campaign for the United States Senate. You are a true friend.
Though I am incredibly disappointed at the outcome, I am very proud of the race that I ran and very grateful for your support.

PS - This has been an emotional time for me, my family and my entire campaign team. It was a tough race and it was extremely close. Everyone worked so hard and I sincerely believe that no candidate for public office could have a more dedicated campaign team. We are all proud of the effort.
